Shamin was a ‘pioneer’. Like so many of her generation growing up in South Africa in the 1970s and 1980s, she rejected the constraints of a Government that sought to define her destiny on the basis of race. For Shamin, her rejection was not through the student politics of the time but through quiet rebellion: insightful and self aware, Shamin sought out the alternative, the spiritual, the underdog. From working in a children's home in South Africa to lecturing and studying in childcare at Blackburn College and the University of Leeds she took their side, their view and in her own way made their voices heard.
This donation is made in memory of David Piper. A kind, gentle family man who lived without prejudice or fuss but with a quiet sureness and great sense of humour. He is greatly missed and is held very dearly in our hearts every day.
This donation is made in memory of Peter Fredrickson (Fred) who steadfastly supported the work of the Bishop Simeon Trust. The kindness, lack of judgement and generosity of spirit he showed to his family and friends throughout his life, guided his work in the local community, making a difference to the lives of young people, both at home and further afield.
