Changing the Story Film Night

On 17th October we are teaming up with the team at the wonderful Hebden Bridge Picture House for an evening of youth led film making.

We will be showing the award winning short film 'Phendulani's Story (and me)' made as part of our partnership with  the Centre for World Cinemas and Digital Cultures at the University of Leeds, alongside the remarkable 'Malume uya Lumana' made by the young people at Rearabilwe Safe Park in Tsakane. These films show the life from the perspective of young people in the South African townships we serve.

These will be preceded by 'I am Belmaya,' a film documenting five years in the life of a determined young woman in Nepal as she meets the challenges her society throws at her.

Together these films will provide us with real insight into the experience of young people across the world and provide us with the chance to hear their voices. We are certain that it will be an evening of great inspiration.

Our Director Martin Keat will introduce the event and Professor Paul Cooke, from the University of Leeds, will do a short presentation following the films. If you are aged 16-25 your ticket is only £5 and entitles you to a free place on an Introduction to Film-making workshop the Picture House is running with Professor Cooke on Monday 18th October from 5-7pm.

All profits from the event will support our vital work for children in South Africa, so please do join us if you can!
