The Ithemba Lethu project
The Ithemba Lethu project, based in Daveyton township, is at the forefront of supporting people living in poverty, with a twice-weekly soup kitchen. They have provided a ‘citizen’s advice’ service for the local community, and some of the ladies now make beaded jewellery to earn a small income.
They have recently persuaded a local school to donate its garden, which is now being used for the cultivation of vegetables for the whole community. The Bishop Simeon Trust funded it with £2,000 in 2008.
